Hot or Cold?

Ever feel like you're playing a game of "Hot or Cold?" with one of your kids, only you don't realize you're even a player until you've been in the game for a while? The other day I could hear my 3 y.o. screaming from the bathroom. I went in to her screaming something like, "Pah-th-wha-(yadayadayada, scream-scream)-rah-nah!!!" I just looked at her and said, "Uhhh, run that by me again...!?" Again the, "Pah-tha-wahl-tah-yadayadayada-(SCREECH)-naaaaaaah!" She was upset, to put it mildly!!!!! This went on for a bit, with me attempting to occasionally decode the message, only to be met with higher-pitched screams OR, a time or two, lower-pitched screams and slightly more relaxed facial muscles. Then, as I would reach toward her, the pitch would get higher! It suddenly dawned on me, "OH, I believe I'm participating in one of those 'Hot or Cold' games, Toddler Style!" Whenever I get hotter, the screams begin to subside, whenever I get colder, the screams intensify!!! Somehow, some way, I finally figured out that she needed the water turned warmer, RIGHT NOW!!! Once I got it figured out, she quit screaming and was my friend again! Ain't life simple? :) I think the reason she got so distraught is that she may have been screaming for me for a bit but I was in another part of the house and didn't hear her at first. By the time it had escalated, I had no choice but to hear her but then she was at the point of no return!!!

What I always find awazing with a house full of people and one screaming how NO ONE else can her the screamer! when someone is in need they suddenly all go deaf, but if they are playing nicely, others have to be all in thier face and bieng the boss! What is up with that?

Well, I have just gotten all caught up on things in your life {yeah, me! :)} And now it is bed time... night!

Yes, isn't that the truth? How can they NOT hear it AND if I then ask one of the kids to go help the needy one, they no longer hear me either!!! I sometimes, JUST to test their hearing (it's a very sophisticated way, mind you), whisper the word, "Candy!" after someone hasn't heard me. Or whisper anything...they hate to be left out of a secret, especially if mom's the one telling it...and they hear me real easily!!! Except for my #3 child. THat could be another post, but to sum it up, she decided to bolt one time when she was only 3 or 4. I ran around the cul-de-sac, through everyone's backyards, behind a neighbor's shed/playhouse (it's a 2-story) that she had a fascination of, and throughout neighborhoods alternating the words, "Sofia!" and "Candy!!!" (meaning that I have candy for her) and she didn't answer. I was so scared, was checking under pool covers, everything! Had called 9-1-1 and left my sister there with the other kids so I could continue my search. Right after the officer showed up and my sister was by his car talking to him, he happened to glance toward our backyard and asked my sister, "Is that the little girl we're looking for?" As my sister looked back where he was pointing, she saw 2 little pigtails dissapear FAST from the neighbor's playhouse window (the upper level). The little FART had been hiding in there the whole time, thinking it was pretty funny that I was searching the neighborhood for her! Even CANDY wasn't lucrative enough to lure her out!!! And that's saying aLOT..Sofia loves sugar so much, she would eat straight out of the sugar cannister, loves pancake syrup or honey straight and will fill a small cup with it and sneak it behind the microwave for later sips!!! It's gross!!!

I never thought of it that way, but "hot or cold" certainly describes all the interpretation we moms have to do! God bless!
